Overview of the Job – Customising a High-End Apartment Fit-Out
At an apartment on Aintree Road in Glen Iris VIC 3146, our team at Your Choice Plumbers was engaged after the new owner wanted to upgrade the kitchen and outdoor plumbing to better suit her lifestyle.
Although the apartment was already finished to a high standard, the owner wanted a more customised plumbing setup that worked better for the way she actually used the home.
This is exactly the type of project where homeowners start asking, “can a plumber customise plumbing in an apartment after handover?” or “can kitchen and outdoor plumbing be upgraded cleanly in a luxury apartment?” As an experienced plumber Glen Iris, we often find that high-end apartments need careful precision work when new fixtures and appliances are being integrated into existing stone, cabinetry, and compact service spaces.
Why This Was More Than a Standard Tap Installation
Although the job included new tapware, it was much more involved than simply swapping out old fixtures.
The owner wanted several upgrades integrated into the apartment properly, including:
- two customer-supplied pull-out kitchen mixer taps
- a heavy-duty InSinkErator food waste disposer
- a compliant drainage point for a dryer condensation line
- a dedicated outdoor garden hose connection that still suited the look of the apartment
That meant the work needed to combine:
- fixture installation
- waste pipe adaptation
- stone drilling
- cabinetry-conscious plumbing
- neat external finishing
This is the kind of work where accuracy matters, because in premium apartments there is very little tolerance for damage, awkward set-outs, or visible plumbing compromises.
Upgrading the Kitchen Into a More Functional Hub
A major part of the project was turning the kitchen into a more practical working area.
We installed the two pull-out mixer taps supplied by the owner and then carried out the more technical part of the kitchen upgrade — integrating the new InSinkErator food waste disposer.
Because the disposer required its own activation point, we carefully drilled the stone benchtop to install the pneumatic air activation button.
This was a precision step, because the benchtop needed to be drilled cleanly and accurately so the finished result looked like it had always been part of the original kitchen design.
Stone Drilling and InSinkErator Installation
To install the InSinkErator properly, we performed careful stone drilling to create the opening for the air switch button.
The key here was achieving a clean, factory-like result without:
- chipping the stone
- marking the benchtop
- creating an awkward or poorly aligned finish
Once the button location was completed, we installed the food waste disposer and balanced it correctly so it would operate smoothly and minimise vibration during use.
This is something we often explain on blocked drains Melbourne jobs as well, because disposer installations need to be handled properly if they are going to work reliably without creating unnecessary drainage or vibration issues later.
Reconfiguring the Kitchen Drainage Properly
The disposer installation also required drainage changes beneath the sink.
We installed a new dedicated waste configuration for the InSinkErator so it was connected properly into the apartment’s existing kitchen drainage system.
This ensured the upgraded kitchen plumbing was not just visually improved above the bench, but also set up correctly underneath where the actual performance of the system depends on proper drainage arrangement.
Laundry Drainage Upgrade for the Dryer Condensation Line
Another important part of the project was the laundry arrangement.
The owner wanted the dryer condensation line drained neatly and compliantly rather than relying on an improvised tray or manual emptying system.
To achieve that, we integrated the dryer condensation drain line into a wall-mounted tundish beneath the sink area.
That gave the apartment:
- a neater drainage solution
- compliant discharge for the dryer condensate
- a much more practical everyday laundry setup
- no need for messy temporary drainage arrangements
Outdoor Hose Connection Without Compromising the Apartment Finish
The owner also wanted a proper external hose connection for general outdoor use, but without installing something cheap or visually out of place.
For this part of the project, we sourced and installed an:
Arco Double Grifo Tap with Non-Return Valve
This high-quality chrome fitting was sourced from Reece Plumbing Armadale.
It was a very good solution for the apartment because it provided:
- two independent outlets
- flexibility for garden hose or general outdoor use
- a more premium finish suited to the property
- a cleaner long-term result than a basic outdoor tap
Final Testing and Performance Checks
Once all upgrades were installed, we carried out full testing across the new plumbing works.
We checked:
- the pull-out mixers for correct operation
- the InSinkErator for smooth running and minimal vibration
- the new drainage setup for correct waste discharge
- the dryer condensation line to the tundish
- the outdoor hose tap for proper flow and sealing
This ensured that the apartment’s new plumbing fit-out was not only visually sharp, but also practical and reliable in everyday use.
Outcome and Client Result
The final result transformed the apartment’s plumbing from a standard builder-style setup into a much more customised and functional system.
The owner now had:
- upgraded kitchen tapware
- a properly integrated food waste disposer
- a neatly drained dryer condensation system
- a premium outdoor hose connection
- a plumbing fit-out that matched the quality of the apartment itself
The owner was very pleased with the finished result, especially the clean stone drilling work and the way the upgraded plumbing blended into the high-end apartment setting.
Compliance with Australian Standards
This case related to the correct installation and connection of plumbing fixtures, waste discharge points, and appliance-related drainage within a residential apartment setting, with the drainage side of the work needing to align with the sanitary and waste discharge principles referenced in AS/NZS 3500.2.
In practical terms, this meant the work was not just about installing premium fixtures. It was also about making sure the drainage, discharge, and appliance connections were arranged properly so the apartment remained neat, functional, and reliable in day-to-day use.
All work carried out by Your Choice Plumbers is completed in accordance with the relevant plumbing standards so customised apartment upgrades are completed with both performance and presentation in mind.
